Abstract

This paper aims to report and discuss the findings of the UK Coaching survey run in 2010/2011 and compare these findings with similar surveys within the UK and in the USA. The paper sought to explore whether there were differences in the coaching approaches and practice used by coaching psychologist and non-psychologist coaches. It confirmed that the prevailing focus of UK coaching activity, within this survey, is business and management related. It also establishes that a majority of UK coaches who responded to this survey are accredited with a coaching related professional body and the majority of coaches identify themselves as Independent Consultants, with a business and management orientation.  This trend appears to reflect business demand for recognised qualification among a growing number of external coaches in the UK.
